Breaking ground in Duluth

BT-Systems enters the next project phase with Sofidel

On 11 April 2025, the official ground-breaking ceremony for the expansion of Sofidel America's production and logistics facilities took place in Duluth, Minnesota. BT-Systems is the general contractor responsible for the fully automated high-bay warehouse as part of this major project.

The automated high-bay warehouse with some 9,300 m² of floor space and a height of approx. 46 metres will form the central link between production and distribution at the Duluth site in future. Equipped with state-of-the-art conveyor technology and intelligent control software, it ensures a consistently optimised material flow and efficient, future-proof intralogistics. Commissioning is scheduled for the beginning of 2026.

Thomas Lafer, Head of Competence Centre ECE-LOG at BT-Systems, and project planner Stefan Gölles were among those on site. The REDWAVE team from Atlanta was also represented at the event by Christina Keough, demonstrating the cross-location cooperation.

The ground-breaking ceremony marks the official start of the realisation of another major international project that focuses on efficiency, automation and sustainability.
